Letters from Katy · Workouts

How do you get abs, really?

At a social event last week, a woman…after discovering I am in fitness…said what many women have over the years: “Katy, I know abs are ‘made in the kitchen,’ but how do I get abs…really?

Me: “You’re right about abs being made by what you eat…but what do you think that means?”

She replied with the correct answer: “Eat fresh vegetables, fruits, protein, grains, and healthy fats.”

BINGO.  “Yes!”

And of course, do a little exercise to tone everything up…which she was already doing but not experiencing the results she wanted because food is 80%.

I’ve found that most women know exactly what to do to reach their fitness goals.  They already know they need to eat healthy and exercise to create the vibrant, fit body they were designed to live life in 👙💜

This woman did, and so I asked her another question: “What do you think is holding you back from getting the abs you want?”

Again, she knew the answer: “I’m not willing to give up junk food!”

So here’s what I replied: “Girl, I love that you have a goal to be fit and gain that toned physique.  I also love your honesty and your wisdom – you already know exactly what you need to do to reach your goals.  The thing you must answer for yourself is “Is being healthy and fit worth it?”

Is it worth replacing junk with good food…worth exercising instead of something else you’d do with your time?

If the answer is “Yes!” Then you can remove any barriers (in your case, junk food) and make that goal happen for yourself.  I know you can do it because I did it 12 years ago and am so glad I said “Yes!” and stepped into victory!”

She thanked me and said “That is so helpful!  I’ll do that, and see what my answer is!”

No pressure – because when it comes to your own health and fitness journey, YOU are the boss.  You have the power.  YOU are your own Personal Trainer 💜 you always have been.

Yes, people who inspire you can help you get started and be that mentor and friend you need as you walk your journey – but you must want it for yourself because you believe that achieving your fitness goal is worth it.

For me personally, I believe that being fit is worth the sacrifice.  But this is my personal belief and story, and everyone must have their own belief and story.  Everyone must “own it” and become their own Personal Trainer…and kick their own booty into gear if their results are going to happen, and last for a lifetime.

So, what about you, dear reader?

What are your goals?

What do you need to do to reach them?

What are the things that are holding you back?

Who do you need to surround yourself with to help you get there?

And most importantly, is achieving your fitness goal worth it?

I hope you will take a moment and answer those Qs for yourself this weekend – because Monday is another fresh, new week that is bursting with opportunity to be our very best selves!

PS – If you are reading this and thinking “But Katy, I really don’t have any idea what will work for me! Help!” I don’t want to leave you in that place! If you want professional guidance on where to start based on what’s going on in your life right now, you can book a Coaching Session where I’m happy to help you.  We’ll create a meal plan and exercise routine that works perfectly for you, so you can move forward with more confidence 🙂

Xoxo 😘 Katy
